Cybersecurity can be a challenge. Here are a few ways to foster a positive employee impact on cybersecurity risks.
Secure Mobile Devices
Require employees to install antivirus software on their devices and use automatic updating. Require that employees use lock screens in order to access their devices to avoid unauthorized use. Put in writing exactly what work-related activities an employee can and cannot do on mobile devices. Lastly, ensure that employees report lost or stolen devices immediately in order to prevent unauthorized use.
Require Strong Passwords
Require that all employees create passwords that are at least 10 characters long and use both upper and lower case letters as well as a combination of numbers and symbols. Do not allow employees to use the same password across multiple accounts. Require that all passwords are reset every few months and do not allow employees to share their passwords with others.
Make Employees Aware of Scams
Train employees on how to be aware of scam emails. Inform them of the typical tactics scammers use, such as poor grammar, misspellings and outrageous stories which are designed to attract the most gullible people. Inform employees not to give out personal information without verifying the source.
These are just a few ways to involve employees in minimizing cybersecurity risks.
